I have been thinking a lot lately about the future of software engineering craft, especially with AI doing more and more of engineering work faster. My view is that the craft will go through a significant shift in the next few years where some of the core engineering skills will become more relevant and perhaps even scarce. These skills include but are not limited to problem framing, systems thinking, verification & debugging. My latest piece explores exactly this issue:

Would love to hear if anyone here is doing something interesting to address the apprenticeship problem. How are you giving the exposure to your junior engineers to solve difficult problems, build judgement to do right trade-offs, take difficult decisions with real consequences.
