Sometimes you just need a break from building “serious” software.
A few weeks ago I caught myself thinking:

What if I recreated Windows 98 entirely in the browser?

That little idea slowly turned into Floppyy.

It’s more than a screenshot or a desktop wallpaper. You can actually interact with it:

  • Open folders and explore the file system
  • Play dos games
  • Click around the desktop just like the old days
  • Launch an old-school browser via dial-up connection

My favorite feature is the browser.

Instead of opening today’s internet, it uses the Internet Archive. You simply type any URL—google.com, rambler.ru, or almost any website—and you’re taken back to snapshots from around 1996–2000.

It’s surprisingly fun to see how simple (and sometimes terrible 😄) the web used to look.

I built it because I missed the feeling of sitting in front of a beige computer, hearing Windows start up, and wondering what I was going to discover next.

Sometimes building something purely for fun is the best reminder of why we started programming in the first place.

If you grew up with Windows 95 or 98, I’d love to hear what memories it brings back.

This wasn’t meant to be a startup or anything—just a fun nostalgia project.

I’d love to hear your feedback or ideas for features I should add.
