I started playing with AI a couple of years ago with Cursor and Code Rabbit as the first tools a programmer had to learn. I hated them, to the core. They were intrusive, wanted to change every single line of code I wrote for the sake of optimization, syntax clarity, type safety, and there was no single one that went without scrutiny. That was the whole purpose of the beast, to annoy me.
I was part of a team project so I couldn’t complain, chugged along, and begrudgingly did everything AI asked me to do. Once that project died due to lack of funding, I went back to solo developer, were the joy of programming really resides. Try, fail, crash, wipe, reinstall, break, and try again until an eureka moment makes your day worth it.
Until I saw her pass me by early this year, and everybody running behind her. Claude.
